Some good news on the climate front: “reflooding is restoring the Mesopotamian marshes”:http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?chanID=sa003&articleID=00069B23-2B04-1477-AB0483414B7F0000 to health, attracting wildlife and plants back to the destroyed habitat. The marshes had been reduced to less than 10 percent of their original volume, but have been restored to 39 percent just since 2000.
Also, the “ozone shield is poised for recovery.”:http://www.csmonitor.com/2006/0601/p02s01-sten.html The Montreal Protocol seems to be working. Both of these events are proof that we can, if we try, reverse impending large scale human-created global catastrophes.
If we don’t, this may be the alternative: “average annual temperatures of 74 degrees”:http://www.csmonitor.com/2006/0601/p02s01-sten.html Fahrenheit in the Arctic. Not good.
